What Customers Say About A Summer Affair:

He pushes away his children and expects them to know that he loves them simply because he does, though he doesn't show it. By itself I could probably appreciate the story more, but as a series it felt too recycled. I was enjoying the story of June and Lucas more because Blue and Isabel's was dragging. In the end the man has changed practically everything about himself and she didn't really change much at all. That is why I only rated this at 3 stars.

Though definitely not one of Susan Wiggs' best I felt the ending required more resolution. "SPOILER ALERT" Also the fact that Isabel still left at the end in such a cowardly way made her seem so spineless and fickle. However A Summer Affair is extremely similar to The Horsemaster's Daughter. There is a repressed man still suffering from the death of his wife that occurred years before. Though she has no experience with families, children, or marriage, she knows all the right answers and does everything perfectly to resolve everyone's problems. As many stated before I felt that there was something missing in the story.

I looked for an epilogue and was disappointed that there wasn't one.All in all it was a nice story. I've read the previous books in this series and found this one to be enjoyable. A woman, full of life, enters the picture. Also I had a problem with Isabel's adventures, it was never fully explained how the heck she paid for it all, there was just a vague description of being part of groups.

I've read The Drifter and liked it a lot, Firebrand was great as well. Wiggs, write more about them. I'm always looking for historical romances in different cultures and would have loved to read more about these two. I loved it, I actually fell inlove with the hero. I'm dying to read more about Lucas and June.

My first Susan Wiggs book was The Charm School and I was blown away. Wiggs. I'm not too sure with this one.I realized I was more interested in the secondary characters, like Lucas and June Li, what a great story line for them. Please, Ms. I love Susan Wiggs.

From then on, I was a fan of Ms. Unfortunately, that's when I knew the story of Blue and Isabel was boring compared to the other two.

Started off with a crime then it seemed that part died in the middle until the last few chapters of the book. This was a good one but it lacked in the middle. Then it was like oh yeah forgot about that.

In time, events unfolded to show Blue that mourning the loss of his first wife was right but, so was moving on to a new life. This sense of adventure and wonder made her interesting, appealing and lovable to all who met her. Blue was dedicated to helping the poor and infirm and was the beloved town doctor. Isabel in turn learned that she didn't have to move to a new location each season in order to constantly leave her past behind. I liked first and foremost that neither the heroine, Isabel nor the hero, Blue were the typical leads you read about. Everyone was so likable that you really wished to meet them. Instead, she was a woman who came from the slums of a workhouse, was abandoned by her family and became a person of her choosing.

I read her book "A Summer Affair" as the reviews were good and she showed up as a popular romance novelist. Blue found through Isabel that learning to laugh, love and enjoy life again was the best thing to do. She understood finally that seasons of joy can be never ending and that love can make the past go away. Love and intimacy scenes were limited in this book - only a few and minor at that. The side characters of sisters, friends and family were also warmly told and that made for a richer story line. I liked that they met after Isabel was shot in a dangerous event down at the docs and she held Blue at gun point to help her recover. I really liked this writers strong descriptions and in depth detailing when describing locations, events and emotions - it really draws you in. You know an author has done a great job when you wish other characters in the book would be developed too and that through other stories you can meet the main characters again one day to see where they are at.

These characters grew on you as the book went on. I was really pleased upon finishing the book to find it was a real gem of a story. She traveled the world and did as she wanted in order to make a life for herself she never had as a child.

Suspicious activity occurred at the docks and questions arose around Isabel over who and what she really was. Happy reading. I will buy more novels by this author and hope for additional characters and stories that stay with you long after the last page has turned.

This is the first novel I've read by Susan Wiggs. In turn, Blue was a family man - surrounded by a honest and true son, warm parents, female siblings and friends he met during the war. When a book is this well written - strong characters, positive and witty dialogue and interesting plots - the love scenes take on less importance.
